International Volunteer Day Garden Party 2025

We had the absolute pleasure of attending the International Volunteer Day Garden Party 2025 at the beautiful Government House Gardens.

The gardens looked spectacular, and that wasn’t just because of the rose garden, the sunlit greenery, and the river (with its very own lifeguard!) – from the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was full of bright smiles and even brighter outfits.

Red was the theme of the day, symbolising volunteering, and it really did give the whole event a wonderful sense of unity and celebration.

Over the afternoon, we heard acknowledgements and speeches from Craig Spencer OAM , the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Hannah Beazley MLA and Tina Williams . All speeches showed true heartfelt gratitude and genuine appreciation for the work volunteers do in our communities. Particular praise goes to Sharon Wood-Kenney for a truly personal and uplifting welcome to country.

Amid the many incredible food offerings, friendly people and beautiful surroundings to soak up, one of the highlights was seeing the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM make his way from table to table, taking time to chat with every guest.

And in classic Ability Heroes fashion, Joe seized the opportunity to slip the Governor one of our business cards (photo below!). We can only admire that level of commitment to networking!

To round off, it was a delightful afternoon in the gardens, surrounded by company with a shared passion for making WA a more inclusive and supportive place. We’re proud to be part of a community that celebrates the people who keep it moving forward.

Here’s to the volunteers – we think you are incredible!!
