Ability Heroes – 2021 – present
Adam B. Hewber
Living with spastic paraparesis since birth Adam was fortunate to experience city and country life and he is determined to contribute meaningfully to the community. After working for five years in the family rural supply business as salesman, gaining a car and forklift driver’s licence with hand controls Adam returned to study. He has achieved an Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts at Perth TAFE, Batchelor of Arts at Murdoch University, and a Diploma of Counselling.
Despite receiving a Disability Support Pension in 2000, Adam continued to seek meaningful employment. In 2010, after too many falls and serious injuries, the use of a wheelchair gave him stability. As a disability advocate, he contributed to advisory boards for more than a decade, acquired not-for-profit business management knowledge, given advice on building design and upgrades to public transport for people with restrictions.
By 2018, Adam planned to return to university to write about his experiences of living with restrictions. In December 2019, COVID arrived, and his plan was on hold.
In January 2021, his support worker, Christoph Dickmann, suggested developing an online database and planning began around the kitchen table. On the 5th of July 2021 ABILITY HEROES LTD was registered as a Charity and received Deductible Gift Recipient Status from the Tax Office.
