Global Accessibility Awareness Day in May

Join us in celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day this May 15th. GAAD encourages others to understand the importance of digital access and inclusion.

At Ability Heroes, we understand the need to evolve and adapt constantly. We have been working on our own digital accessibility, and we want to encourage others to do the same. We should be in a world where digital accessibility is not a forgotten or unknown part of the process.

What is Digital Accessibility?

Digital Accessibility refers to the practice of designing and developing digital products and services that people with disabilities can use. Digital products such as websites, applications and documents.

Three most common website accessibility mistakes

  1. Low contrast of text (84%): Low contrast makes it harder for users to distinguish the text from its background, leading to eye strain and difficulty reading.
  2. Missing alternative text for images: Screen reader users can miss out on important information being communicated by images.
  3. Empty/broken links: These can create confusion and frustration, making it difficult or impossible for users to navigate and interact with the website.

How can we improve?

Technology is constantly evolving. We now have hundreds of tools to help improve digital accessibility. Keep yourself accountable and be open to adjusting and evolving.

  • Keep up to date with digital accessibility news
  • Regularly audit sites and services for accessibility needs
  • Keep others accountable
